Recognizing the unique opportunities within the film making community for participants to make positive contributions to literally millions of lives the Burbank International Film Festival has committed to honoring those people who have brought a measure of joy and hope to others through their work. For 2011 The Burbank International Film Festival Awareness Award goes to Sam Mettler creator of the hit TV show “Intervention” on the A&E television network. The award also goes to Candy Finnigan an interventionist on the show that helps families work through their issues and problems. Candy specializes in counseling female addicts, particularly addicted mothers. Since its inception “Intervention” an untold but clearly vast number of individuals have been given the chance to live a sober life and improve their personal relationships. This year the Burbank International Film Festival is honored and pleased to grant the Awareness Award to Sam Mettler and Candy Finnigan for bringing light to darkness and hope to the troubled. Adams home on medical leave after having had his carotid artery sliced open by shrapnel from a rocker propelled grenade while engaged in a fire fight in Afghanistan. He barely survived this life threatening wound but many of his comrades did not survive that day. It is those men T.J. is most anxious to honor. Flappers Comedy Club and Burbank International Film Festival have joined to make this wish come true. “We are privileged and honored to be able to salute not only this brave soldier but his many friends who did not survive that bloody attack two months ago now. Burbank International Film Festival to Honor Wounded Afghanistan War VeteranPRESS RELEASE – IMMEDIATE BURBANK, CA. The Burbank International Film Festival in cooperation with Flappers Comedy Club of Burbank shall honor U.S. Army soldier PFC Timothy J. Adams during its comedy film event being held August 14th, 2011 from 9:00 p.m. at the Flappers Comedy Club at First Street and Magnolia Boulevard in Burbank, California. Timothy or T.J. as he prefers to be called was severely wounded last month by shrapnel from a rocket propelled grenade that exploded near his position. The shrapnel sliced though his carotid artery and was certain to result in his swift death but for the amazing efforts of a helicopter team and superb emergency treatment from military medical personnel. More background on T.J. Adams may be found in a recent EXAMINER article that not only tells his story but challenges TV producers and film makers to do a better job in telling the many stories of the severe tragedies being experienced by American military families. BURBANK INTL FILM FESTIVAL AND NEW YORK FILM ACADEMY JOIN FORCESFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE02 February 2011 BURBANK INTL FILM FESTIVAL AND NEW YORK FILM ACADEMY JOIN FORCES BURBANK, CA Senior Executives of both the Burbank International Film Festival and the New York Film Academy met recently at Universal Studios to discuss ways and means the two prestigious entities might work together to the benefit of the art of film making. Both sides recognized that a powerful synergy existed between the two. The Burbank International Film Festival offered dramatically reduced submission fees to students of the New York Film Academy and invited the Academy to fully participate in the film festival including the presentation of seminars to festival participants. The New York Film Academy agreed to provide the Burbank International Film Festival with at least one full scholarship to one of the Academy's short courses. This gracious offer will be used by the festival in its fund raising efforts. Both organizations agreed to continuing discussions on the many ways they can grow their mutual relationship and enhance the overall value to local film makers and the film industry at large.
